Small Dog Bark Collar

Amazingly there are many different types of these collars, using different technology to stop a dog which barks too much.

All of the solutions are perfectly harmless so nobody ever needs to feel bad about using one. Lets face it, there is nothing more annoying than a dog that barks seemingly for no reason at all. They can cause you so much trouble with neighbors.

Of course to begin with you should try to establish why your dog barks. Is he hungry? Is he looking for more attention? Does he want water? Is he comfortable, i.e. not in the direct sun when it is hot?

People can sometimes make a dog bark worse by shouting at it from outside your property, this only serves to make the dog bark more.

With all of the different types, they are only activated when the dog barks, so if they are quiet then the collar rests.

Some types are quite complex in that they give you such a range of correction levels. You can choose levels which suit your dog, is he sensitive, is he very stubborn or is he just normal. When you set the collar to suit your dog then every time he barks the collar emits a signal and each time he barks after that the signal gets stronger. If he barks more than 15 times within 1 minute the collar rests for a full 3 minutes, giving the dog a break from training.

Another type of humane small dog barking collar uses Citronella spray. Every time the dog barks a light mist of citronella is sprayed in front of his nose and dogs do not like this scent. Most dogs quickly learn not to bark if they are going to get this scent in front of their nose. It doesn’t work with every dog though, but scientific studies seem to prove that this type of corrective collar is more effective than a shock collar.

There are other concepts, i.e. vibration as against shock, but unfortunately some models of this type seem to be over sensitive and any movement of the dog sets it off. They just do not do what you want them to do.

There are so many types of these collars that you would be hard put to choose one from the list. First and foremost you would probably choose the type, i.e. vibration, smell or shock. That would perhaps narrow down your search. Then there is the question of price. There is such a range of prices, I have seen something priced as low as $19.99 and others over $100.

You may want a small dog barking collar and whilst there are models to fit small dogs specifically, there are others which will fit large or small and everything in between.

Excessive barking can be cured, or at the very least reduced to such an extent as to be no longer a problem.
You don’t want to stop your dog barking altogether, otherwise he wouldn’t be much of a guard dog, it’s just the gratuitous barking that is annoying.

The type of shock collar you would no doubt choose would be one that was activated solely by the vibrations emanating from the dog’s vocal cords, not from extraneous noises or movements.

Do not feel that you are being cruel to your dog when you use an anti-barking collar. The dog isn’t going to get hurt, he is only going to feel something that he won’t like, a vibration or small shock, or a nasty smell and he will very quickly learn to associate this with his barking. Most dogs are not stupid, they learn very quickly and will stop that unnecessary barking pronto.
